Pinewood Derby

It's that time again! It's the Annual Pinewood Derby! The scouts were issued their Pinewood Derby kits at the November Pack Meeting. With preparations for the big race underway, there are some important dates to keep in mind! During the January Pack Meeting (January 19th), we will hold a practice run for the Derby cars. Inspection and impound of the cars will be held on January 26th. The Pinewood Derby Race will take place on Saturday, January 30th! Good luck!!

Help Wanted

We are always in need of volunteers to make this organization go! We are currently seeking someone to head our spring fund raiser. To sign up, please contact Patty Young at payoung@cinci.rr.com.

Baked Goods Auction

We will be holding a baked goods auction during the December Pack Meeting in order to raise money for the pack. Any and all tasty treats are welcome, so pull out your favorite receipes and lend a hand! Please show your support and let us know what goodies you can bring by contacting Christina Weber at 889-1406, or via email: christinaweber12@yahoo.com.

Cub Scout Caroling

In December, the scouts will be going Caroling. This fun evening of singing will be followed up with a dinner at Richard's Pizza. Each scout will receive their own personal pizza, but families will have to purchase their own. Please plan accordingly.

*The original date was scheduled on the 19th of December, but may be changed to the 12th. An announcement will be made once the final date is determined.*

Pack Dues

Pack dues ($40) will be collected at the December Pack Meeting. In addition to traditional payment methods, payments can also be made by using the funds in your Scout Account.

Pop Tabs

Following tradition, we are collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House charity, which focuses on assisting with health care for families and children in need. For the den that collects the most pop tabs, each scout within that den will be awarded $5 Scout Bucks, so save those tabs!

Popcorn Update!

Popcorn orders will arrive and will be ready for pick-up on November 21st. Please contact Patty Young (payoung@cinci.rr.com) to schedule a time. This doesn't mean that the sale is over- Popcorn can be sold throughout the year! Just go to scouts.trails-end.com and set up an account for your scout.

Possum Run Campout

In response to the requests for directions...

It’s on West Sharon Road, close to Mill Road. It’s almost exactly across the street from the Mill Course golf center. If you are coming from Fairfield, you would travel up Mill Road (Old Winton Road near Rt. 4, turns into Mill after Nilles, travels past the Fire Station, Today homes and the Fairfield golf course on John Gray Rd.) until you get to West Sharon Road and take a left and it’s shortly after you turn, on the left. There is a sign out front that says “Possum Run”, but it’s past the campground driveway and a little hard to see. Anyway, there is a driveway there and you have to drive back a little way to even see the campground.

22 Kids and a Fish!

The fishing derby was a lot of fun, even though the fish weren't biting! As the wind got colder, people started to leave... We were down to about ten boys there at the very end, and Nathan from Den 5 came running with the first, last, ugliest, biggest, smallest (etc etc) fish caught by a Cub. Since he was the only cub to catch a fish, he wins ALL categories! Of course we gave the prizes out anyway; we just drew names.

Thanks to Geri and Joey for their effort in making this event a success! And, thanks to all the parents who braved wind, rain, hooks, bait, and fish scales!

FISHING DERBY

Hope to see you at the Fishing Derby this Saturday; what a great way to kick off Spring Break! Wanted to make sure you know that this is a RAIN OR SHINE event! From what I understand, the fish bite better when it's raining...

SEE YOU SATURDAY!

Spring Break

Hope everyone has a healthy, happy, and safe Spring Break!

The Webelos are going camping. HAVE A GREAT TIME!
There is NO DEN MEETING for the Bears or the Wolves.
It's an off week for the Tigers, so no meeting for them either!

The competition was fierce with so many boys participating, and the top ten winners from each division were announced!

Will took 7th place in the Webelos division! Way to GO Will!

What's Happening in Den 2

The Webelos in Den 2 had a busy first year. We started it off hiking in Harbin Park and earned our Forester Badge. Then, we had our first campout in October. It was cold and rainy, but the boys had a great time. Steven, Christian, and Dylan had a great time because they “made hamburger foil dinners and roasted marshmallows” and “got to make fires.” We took a night hike and all the boys earned their Fireman’s Chit and Outdoorsman Badge at the campout. Next, while working on our Citizen Badge, we visited the Fairfield Justice Center and took a tour of the Courthouse, the Jail and the Police Station. We got to meet Judge Joyce Campbell, checked out the jail cells and learned how the Dispatcher/911 service works. Ask any of the boys in Den 2 if they ever want to “sit under the clock” in the court room. After our tours, we went to Fairfield Pizza to eat dinner (we got to make our own pizzas). YUM…YUM…YUM. Then we delivered the canned goods the Pack collected to One Way Farm. The boys really enjoyed this outing and hope to perform another service project for the children at One Way Farm soon. In December, we earned our Fitness Badge and went climbing at Climb Time in Blue Ash. Christopher, Dylan and Steven all thought that this was a “cool” and “fun” time; we “ate pizza, climbed walls and played ping pong.” On a Monday off of school in January, our Den earned their Aquanaut Badge at the Miami Rec. Center. They all worked very hard for 2 hours in the morning on their swimming and life saving skills. After a short break for lunch at McDonalds, we returned to the Miami Rec. Center for an afternoon of Family Fun Day. All the boys really loved sliding on the huge slide, competing with each other on the rolling log, and kayaking. Dalton, Christian, Jayson and Isaac (our Den Chief) even learned how to Scuba Dive! Jayson says that “everyone who likes to swim has to come to Miami University to swim on Family Fun Day!” In March, we went to the Fairfield Lane Library and earned our Communicator Badge working in the Computer Lab. We have our first 2-night Den Camp-out at the end of March, where we will achieve our Readyman and Naturalist Badges. We are all looking forward to summer camp. One of Will’s favorite activities is camping at Cub World and he encourages all boys in the Pack to attend this year!

We still need volunteers!

Consider this, you own a new car. A person you vaguely know wants to take your car for one hour a week. Now, do you hand them the keys, wave Good-Bye, and say “See you in an hour!” Of course not! Is your son any less important to you than a car? Your child is your most prized treasure.

We’re not asking you to make a lifetime commitment – but just to commit to helping your son and his friends with a weekly activity for one school year.

Get in touch with Shelley Rapach, Committee Chair to volunteer!

RASKALS

What is RASKALS?

The next Randon Acts of Simple Kindness Affecting Local Seniors has been set for May 2, 2009 from 9am to 1pm. We will volunteer our time and energy to help others in need. I expect many boys and their parents will volunteer to help out seniors right here in Fairfield! Sign up at the MARCH Pack Meeting!

Day Camp

Day Camp is at Harbin Park June 22 through 26 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. If you don’t feel that your son is ready for summer camp, day camp is the next best thing! Sign up at the MARCH pack meeting!

Last chance for SUMMER CAMP

It’s not too late to sign up for Summer camp, but the deadline is quickly approaching. In order to register, you will need to get with Pete Krueger by the April pack meeting. We want more boys to experience this awesome opportunity! We also would like to see more adults join in the fun! The entire fee of $110 is due when you register by the April 28 pack meeting.
