Committee Meeting- October

We are excited about the number of boys who have joined Pack 969. With a lot of boys, we need a lot of volunteers. The more volunteers we have the less we all have to do. Please consider joining us at our next Committee Meeting, at Richards Pizza on Niles Rd, 7pm this Friday! We look forward to seeing some new faces.

Never Ending Fun

That's what October is. If you are a Webelos II, well the fun never ends. Since Webelos have the ability to do something 3 out of 4 weekends in October. For all you new scouts we usually only offer 1 pack activity a month. This year October is an unusual month since we chose to do Cub-O-Ree as our fall camp-out. I am so glad we did, less planning for our pack, and all the new boys that went had the oppurtunity to earn their BB beltloop and their archery beltloop, all before your very first den meeting. Very cool!

Spookeree is our next activity. We went last year and had a total blast. Cub World makes for an awesome place to celebrate a safe Halloween. The prices are listed on the link. If you are interested in going have your money to your den leader by the 14th, so Cyndi can get you pre-registered. If you are interested in joining the Committee, all are welcome, you can bring Spookeree money to the committee meeting.

JOIN CUB SCOUTS

The official sign up night is SEPTEMBER 16, 2008, 7:00PM, Fairfield West Gym. Only boys who have not yet sign up for scouts need to attend. Scouts who have already filled out an application do not need to attend. All committee members should attend, if you bring your boys please make sure they are in uniform. There won't be a flag ceremony, it's basically sign up, pay registration fee, get some basic information and that's it.

Big thanks to Assistant Cub Master Ron Sexton and Cub Master Mark Nichols for manning the table at West's Open House. Usually this responsibility is split up between the adult leaders, but since both of their boys are now at the intermediate school and had their open house the night before they willingly stayed the whole night. We distributed 25 fliers, and had 21 sign ups, plus a few folks who didn't get fliers, so that's good news.

The committee meeting is scheduled still for Friday September 12th, 7pm at Richards Pizza. If you are unable to attend please let me know as soon as possible. If you are new and would like to join the committee everyone is welcome!

Our first Pack Meeting is September 23rd, 7pm, in the Gym. New Parent Orientation will be in Room 102 at the beginning of the Pack meeting.

Everyone had a blast at our Annual Pack Picnic at Harbin Park. We all had fun in spite of the heat.

End of Summer

I can't believe summers almost over. I should have none it would end quickly once we had our planning meeting. Thanks to everyone who came out for the planning meeting. I do believe that was the shortest planning meeting in Pack history. Please remember there is a committee meeting at the Pack Picnic, at 2pm. The picnic starts at 11am with lunch at 12 and the meeting at 2. Everyone should have got a letter with the upcoming events, if you didn't get a letter and feel you should have, feel free to send an e-mail and we'll bring you up to date, or just click on the calender and it'll give you scheduled events for the whole year.

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but the Pack is in desperate need of volunteers from some of our younger dens. It's a really good time to step up and help out, so that come February when most of the experienced committee members are gone you won't be leading blindly. There are some awesome training oppurtunities in October, they are listed on the calender. If you are interested let any of the committee members know and we'll point you in the right direction and give you the support you need. We're looking forward to a great Cub Scout year!

Our boys are heading off to summer camp. Having been to summer camp myself theres nothing more fun than mail at camp. Big mail at camp is even better. So here is the address for you to send mail. END OF THE YEAR MADNESS!!

What a great day we had for the river clean up. We had a decent turn out. We'd love to see more Tigers and Wolfs for our activities. Lori and Leigh did an awesome job organizing the ice cream social. The webelo II's did a great job showing the younger boys how to get super muddy playing in the creek.

We will be doing a big plea for volunteers at our last pack meeting. We are in desperate need of new leadership for the coming school year. The first position that needs to be filled is Popcorn Kernal. Orientation for new Kernals for the Ft. Hamilton District is July 30th, at Butler Tech. All positions are open so feel free to jump in with both feet and help out. Now is the time to do it while experienced leaders are there to help you find your way. There will be sign up sheets at the last pack meeting along with job descriptions.

If you aren't going to Summer Camp, the district has a great Day Camp program that the boys can participate in and get the same experiences as Summer Camp. See Ron for information if you are interested in Day Camp. There is one at Harbin Park in June, and one at Timberhill in July. Remember cub scouts doesn't end when the school year ends. There is at least one activity per month during the summer.

Camp-out Update, and Last Pack Meeting

We are coming up on our last pack meeting of the year. It's hard to believe. Seems like after the Blue and Gold banquet time flys super fast and before you know it, it's time for the spring campout.

Speaking of which I hope everyone has had some time to check out the pictures. The boys and parents had a lot of fun. Timberhill proved to be super nice, private and safe for the boys. Friday night is always fairly quiet, since a lot of families usually wait and come out on Saturday morning. The Sextons ginormous tent was too big for the super cool tent platforms so their tent was pitched on the ground down in a valley, near the platforms. A few other families utilized the platforms on Saturday. Everyone else decided not to drag their stuff down the huge hill and chose to pitch their tents on higher ground.

Saturday Morning we had some bacon and pancakes, and then headed out on our first ever Letterboxing expedition. These weren't actual Letterboxes, we planted 4 boxes with treasures for the boys to find in teams. We have since planted a Pack 969 Letterbox in the place of Team #1's box. The boys (and one girl) enjoyed the hunt, and all got keychain flashlights when they found their box. Saturday afternoon we drug the boys out of the creek for the Space Derby. Ron Sexton built an impressive track, and the boys had a lot of fun testing it out. All who participated recieved a patch. Saturday night we utilized the small Amphetheater, and the boys performed spontaneous (very spontaneous) skits they made up. They also performed actual skits they have been doing for a few years. Joey and his brother were kind enough to teach us a couple new ones. The webelos led all the boys in a grand finale of "We're all in this Together" from High School Musical. The rest of the night was enjoyed by the campfire eating S'mores and Camper Pies.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the last Pack Meeting of the year on May 20th. Be thinking about how you'd like to be more involved next year, and consider joining us at the Planning Meeting in July when we plan for the whole school year.

Please do not bring firewood. We've purchased plenty of firewood from the ranger. No carry in firewood is permitted.
Just an FYI: Only boys with their wittling chip are permitted to have pocket knives. This is not only a pack rule this is a BSA rule.
If anyone has 2 way radios these would be helpful for the "Pre-Flight Training" Letterboxing adventure.
If you don't plan on showing up until Saturday, please be at the campsite by 10am so you don't miss out on the letterboxing fun. Make sure you bring shoes suitable for hiking.
Be sure to study the post below, for hints and clues to Saturdays adventure.

Spring Campout

Anyone else super excited it's finally Spring? OK so maybe not today, which is the day we chose to go hiking to pick areas for the "Preflight Letterboxing Adventure". All week it was warm, and sunny, today cold, dreary, wet and muddy. We did not succumb to the weather and carried on with our hiking plans. So the mosaic that follows is a preview of the camping area as well as hints for the letterboxing adventure. You will not want to miss the letterboxing adventure.

If you've seen these photos it could give your team an advantage. Details.....
